Where does the peculiar smell in the newly purchased thermos cup come from

Many thermos cups have a peculiar smell right after they are bought home, which is quite annoying. This kind of peculiar smell cannot be said to be bad, but it is also very strange: it is a kind of damp, hot and a bit industrial smell, a bit like wearing new low-quality canvas shoes for shopping, and after returning home, the smell is in the socks. The smell comes out. Then we have to ask: Where does this smell come from, and how to get rid of it?

origin of flavor

The first thing that can be determined is that it is absolutely abnormal to have this kind of smell in the thermos cup - even if you go to the merchant to argue, the merchant will tell you that this is a normal smell of a new cup. But why does a new cup have to taste?

The truth is: this flavor comes from the material of the cup. Specifically, there are three sources:

  1. The smell of heated metal

Metal will heat up and even burn when it is cut, polished, or welded, and then it will emit a peculiar smell. The same goes for the metal in the water cup. Most water cups will have welding points (a seam inside) inside. Such water cups will definitely produce odor. A high-quality water cup is pressure-bearing in one piece and has no solder joints, so there is no odor (and it is not easy to leak).

  1. The smell of rubberIn order to seal the thermos cup, there will be a rubber ring. This rubber ring is installed on the cup lid, but new cups are often installed directly inside the cup, and we need to install it ourselves after buying it home. Rubber will become soft and sticky when heated, and it will also emit an odor.

Have you ever wondered why the rubber ring is not directly installed on the cup lid when it leaves the factory? It’s because of the poor quality of the rubber ring! If it is installed on the cup lid in advance, it is likely to stick directly to it or break early. The poorer the rubber ring, the greater the odor it emits.

  1. The smell of polyurethaneMost thermos cups use the vacuum in the middle to block the bridge of temperature transmission to achieve the purpose of heat preservation. But there are also some thermos cups that use insulation materials (polyurethane) to block the spread of temperature.

Polyurethane, on the other hand, has a relatively strong smell. During the process of filling the polyurethane inside the cup, some odor will definitely remain in the cup.

How to remove odor?

Deodorizing water cups is actually very simple and a fool-like operation: just swipe it a few times and you're done! The water can drive away the air in the cup and drive out the odor at the same time. The odor in the water cup is generated during production and storage. After opening the cup lid, the odor in the water cup will not continue to occur, and the existing odor will soon dissipate.

If you are particularly anxious, you can also use the following two methods:

1. Blow air to accelerate the air circulation inside the thermos cup and blow out the flavor quickly. You can use electric fans, hair dryers and other equipment to assist - when using a hair dryer, do not turn on the hot air.

2. Adsorption, put tea, activated carbon and other things with strong adsorption capacity into the thermos cup, and let it absorb the smell inside.
